CC Roundup: Soccer loses close contest, volleyball bounces back

The Centralia College women’s soccer team ended up on the wrong end of a close game on Wednesday, as the Trailblazers fell to Tacoma Community College 1-0 for their first loss of the season.

The Titans controlled the pace of play for much of the first half of the game, and they got on the board about halfway through.

Centralia (5-1, 1-1 NWAC) generated a few chances as the game went along, but the Trailblazers never found the equalizer, and their five-game winning streak to open the season came to an end.

They’ll hit the road to try and get back in the win column on Wednesday, Sept. 18, when they’ll head to Lacey to take on South Puget Sound. It’s a rematch of a meeting that took place last week, which Centralia won 6-1.

Volleyball: Trailblazers bounce back with sweep of Dolphins

The Centralia College volleyball team got back in the win column on Wednesday, as the Trailblazers swept Shoreline 25-9, 25-17, 25-11.

It was great to be back at home after our two weeks away,” Centralia College coach Ceanna Larson-Michalek said. “The girls played well. We were able to show some of our depth tonight.

“Shoreline was a good serving team and pushed us,” she continued. “But we were able to keep in system and play with our offense.”

Avery Starr led the Trailblazers (7-5) with 27 assists, five aces, and two blocks, while Paige Miller added nine kills.

Analiese Martin tallied seven kills, while Cadence Gumanas and Morgan Rogerson logged six each.

The Trailblazers will have one more preseason tournament before heading into league play, as they’ll head to Mt. Hood to face Mt. Hood and Bellevue on Friday and Saturday.
