The Centralia College men’s soccer team won its first game of the season on Saturday, as the Trailblazers beat Portland 4-3.

Tristan Evans got the Trailblazers on the board in the 15th minute with a goal, and Mario Silva Gutierrez doubled the advantage just before halftime.

Portland responded with a pair of goals right after halftime, but Carlos Angel Hernandez and Silva Gutierrez scored in the 65th and 78th minute, respectively, to push the CC lead back to two.

An own goal got the Panthers within one, but CC was able to hold on for the win.

“It was a little closer than we would have liked,” Centralia coach Noel Vazquez said. “But we will take it. We needed a spark, so it was a good way to start the season at home after being on the road six games in a row.”

Centralia is back on the road on Wednesday, when it heads to Medford, Oregon to face Rogue Community College.
