CC Roundup: Women’s soccer team battles, but falls to Highline

The Centralia College women’s soccer team dropped its third-straight game on Saturday, losing 4-2 to Highline at Bob Peters Field.

The T-Birds scored three goals in the first 20 minutes of the game, and they added one more with less than 10 minutes until halftime to extend their lead to 4-0.

Avery Bruan got the Trailblazers on the board in the 58th minute off an assist from Adriana Glorioso, and Maylania Mikaele added an unassisted goal in the 82nd minute, but it was too little, too late.

Brooklynn Alkire made nine saves in net for Centralia, and Kalei Garcia also made a save.

The Trailblazers remain one point back of Tacoma for the third and final playoff spot in out of the NWAC region.

CC (9-5, 5-5 NWAC) will be back in action on Saturday against Pierce for their final home game of the regular season.

Men’s soccer falls behind big early in loss to Highline

The Highline men also had a big first half, as the T-Birds scored seven in the first to put Centralia behind the 8-ball. The Trailblazers went on to lose 9-2.

Owen Jacobs scored the Trailblazers’ first goal in the 28th minute off an assist from Damian Hernandez, and Hernandez got on the board himself in the 48th minute off an assist from Matthew Orihuela.

Rico Ewell and Neftali Arellano were active in net, combining for 19 saves.

Centralia (2-13-2, 2-9-1 NWAC) will host Tacoma on Wednesday.
