ROCHESTER — The Chehalis 14-year old Babe Ruth All-Stars scrapped to get a 13-5 comeback win over South Thurston here Friday evening in the opening night of the District III 14-Year-Old Babe Ruth All-Star Baseball Tournament.

After giving up two runs in the opening frame Chehalis’ Tyler Beesley got his groove back and coasted the rest of the way, giving up just one more run on four hits.

“He started off a little bit rough,” said Chehalis coach Kelly Calkins. “but he settled down and did a good job.”

Chehalis’ bats came alive in the fourth inning as the plated five runners on five hits.

Brady Calkins and Keyleen Steen each knocked two-run singles to give Chehalis the lead.

Calkins ended the game 3 for 5 with three singles and Steen led the team by going 4 for 4.

Chehalis added insurance runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings as they finished the game with 13 runs on 12 hits.

“We played some pretty good defense and had a couple of breakdowns, but we’ll get better as the tournament goes on,” Calkins added.

Chehalis will play East Grays Harbor tonight at 6 p.m., while South Thurston will play Mt. St. Helens at noon. Both games are at Rochester High School.
